Adelaide Wedding Cakes – Sugar Sugar Cakes
Look no further than this Adelaide wedding cakes business – this is a feature of Amanda from Sugar Sugar Cakes. Not only is she one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met, she has a great attitude about her work and her cakes are truly mind blowing. (She even hand paints some of them, it’s incredible!) I see her as a true artist and she has such a beautiful and grateful heart. Here are some Q&A’s about Amanda below but make sure you check out her website and see some of her stunning cakes pictured below:
What made you want to start Sugar Sugar Cakes?
Sugar Sugar Cakes evolved from my work as a classically trained pastry chef. I was taking a short sabbatical from full time pastry work when I was approached to make a specialty cake for a friend. Subsequent orders followed from other friends and I realised it was a perfect next step, one which combined my love for pastry and all things creative.
Can you tell us a little bit about your business?
Quintessentially, Sugar Sugar Cakes is a boutique business specialising in contemporary cakes, dessert buffets & catered desserts. My signature cake design style often has an artistic lilt with a sleek, polished finish. Apart from catering for weddings, parties & events, this year SSC has started supplying desserts to a winery in the hills as well as cake decorating teaching with Bake Boss Australia, which I’m absolutely loving!
What is your favourite thing about what you do?
The absolute best moment of the whole cake process is when you deliver, set up, and finally step back and see the completed cake centrepiece in all its glory. The hours, the concentration, the work all coming together in a beautiful edible display. Not to mention the relief of getting the cake there in one piece!
What is the hardest/most challenging thing about what you do?
Late nights/all-nighters! I treasure my sleep, but during peak wedding/event season, it is hard to avoid especially with the high number of cakes & products that have to be churned out in a short amount of time. It is in these times of toil that caffeine becomes a temporary life support!
What do you like doing in your spare time, or around the home?
Weekends are busy work days for both my husband and I, and so we look forward to ‘date nights’ on Monday (our “weekend”). Simple things like dinner, a movie & ice cream pretty much does it for me. Otherwise, the beach, craft markets, food festivals, a drive to the country or a stroll at sunset are the other things that often top the “spare-time” agenda.
Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Everywhere.! Some of my best cake designs come from the most unexpected places such as an advertisement graphic, a page in a homewares magazine, a dress, canvas art… I try not to look at other cakes when seeking inspiration, but rather other objects & graphic elements that I can interpret in sweet edible form.
Do you have any secret/hidden abilities?
I can wiggle my ears! Ha.. My cousin can do it too, so it must run in the family.?
